And after the van pulled away, a station wagon drove up...

Just popping online for a moment (famous last words!) to show you a few more of our recent consignments:

Two nearly-new Stowaway Cribs by Foundations, Model 40-20-2F-CW. ($110 each.)

Stowaway cribs are easy to roll out and set up, even one-handed.
White metal frame is 26.5" wide x 40" long, and stands 30.5" tall at the sides.
In excellent condition. Mattress pad included. Why pay $215 for new when these are available?

And when the little one is not in the crib, wouldn't this be a fun place to sit with mom?

Charming and classy, white wicker rocker. A natural in a shabby chic or garden setting.
Woven resin makes this great indoors or out. In excellent condition. ($165)

That's all I have time to show you here. Many more treasures to see in our flickr.com gallery, and of course in person at The Living Room, with a cup of tea.

What the van brought in...

Here's a quick peek at why we should subtitle our business "Ado Annie's Consignment", although unlike Ado Annie, we believe we are only saying yes to quality offers. It's just that there's a lot of quality furniture out there to be consigned, and sometimes, we "cain't say no":

7 ft silk corn cane plant    melamine wardrobe shut
Doesn't everyone want a 7' tall silk corn cane plant in their entry? No need to water, just dust it off every so often. ($68)
We also have two of the ever-popular IKEA-style, white melamine cupboards. These have cheerfully colored door handles. 30” x 15” x 48” tall: lots of storage in there! (UDPATE: 1 left, at $75)

And for those of you wanting more room at the table, here's a dining room set worthy of your consideration:

6' x 44" table top with sort of a frontier style. Two 18" end-additions make plenty of room for the 10 (!) handsome Windsor chairs included in this set. ($750)
Plank table corner  plank table chairs

Are 10 chairs just a scosche too many? Here's a beautiful trestle table with carved, beaded accent and 8 sturdy chairs for your friends and relations. Rounded rectangular top measures 72" long x 42" wide, plus 2 leaves stored under the table add 12" each. ($825):

Cheval mirror     Blue wingback and ottoman
Charming reproduction cheval mirror, 5' tall in its oak swivel stand ($48), and classic wingback/ottoman pairing ($125). (UPDATE: both mirror and chair set sold.)

Genuine Thonet bentwood rocker     twin four-poster canopy bed
Genuine Thonet bentwood rocker (now half-price at $125), and little girl's dream canopy 4-poster ($199).

That's just part of what's new at The Living Room, with more coming tomorrow. Hope you will come by soon for tea and treasure!

Moving Americana and moving music

Hooked rug center

(Last part first, while working on this blog entry, the classical station on grooveshark.com offered this amazing, hauntingly otherworldly piece by JS Bach:
http://listen.grooveshark.com/s/09+Qui+Tollis+Peccata+Mundi/2FMoAE
"Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." Hallelujah.)

OK, so listening to the sighs of heaven while dabbling in the mundane, remember this charming old hooked wool rug? It's at $195 now. (Sold later on 1/22/2011) We've set it up as a wall hanging, which I think works better, given its age.
Hooked wool rug/wall hanging

I made a quick video of it for a long-distance customer; if you'd like to see my first youtube posting, here it is:

I have a lot to learn about making videos. This one is too fast and shaky. I was trying to let the shopper see for himself the combination of wear vs. beauty in this piece of Americana.

The stills give a better idea. See our flickr set, "Vintage Americana wool hooked rug".

Wonderful Singer workhorse: Model 15-91

I just realized I've been remiss in not sharing with you that we have a vintage Singer sewing machine on consignment. It's the wonderful model 15-91, a terrific workhorse. This one is housed in a gleaming, wooden, sewing cabinet that opens to form a small work table.

In the storage bench, we found 2 boxes of accessories, a very stylish 1950's Sewing Skills booklet, and Singer's instruction manual for the Model 15-91.

The serial number, AL312585, indicates this was one of 50,000 Model 15's built in 1953 at Singer's Elizabethport factory in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

This machine appears to be in great shape and it runs, but we haven't checked the stitch. It is missing the upper thread spindle. It has the bobbin case, but no bobbins came with it.

Salton hot tray (Update: Sold)

Salton hot tray cart

Have I shown you this before? It's a vintage, 1960's Salton hot tray built into a serving cart. Very cute, and it still works great. Will keep foods hot during a buffet breakfast or supper.

Weather like this is for the bears...

A very chilly, rainy day in Kenmore. Popped over to Kenmore Coffee & Tea for a wonderful mocha. Yes, I can make very good hot chocolate at The Living Room, but I needed to tell Amy that a customer had called to rave about the latte Amy had made for her earlier this afternoon. Yay for great coffee in Kenmore!

Back at the shop, browsing through our flickr photos, looking for something to update the blog. For some reason, hot chocolate and teddy bears seem to go together.

Maybe it's the link between the theobroma ("food of god") in chocolate and the theodore ("gift of god") in Teddy Bear.

At any rate, we have both at The Living Room! Here are a couple of cuties from among our collection:

Lovin' them connections...

So, when Didi called about buying some patio tables for a school mosaic project...

patio tables: wrought iron, tile

...little did I  know that I would soon be meeting a fiddle-playin', goat-milkin', urban farmer.

She loaded her new purchase into and on top of a farm vehicle disguised as a demure, suburbanite's station wagon. All that gave her away were the festooning wisps of barn straw. Didi deftly triple-tied the load down with cargo straps while we chatted about hand-made soaps and city chickens.

Here's a secret video captured at great risk, so you can know the truth behind the growing goat-farmers movement in Seattle. The theme, while it's hard to make out from behind the twang, seems to be something along the lines of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie", as applied to "If You Give a City Dweller the Right to Raise Goats":

(You may be startled, as I was by all the racket when Rosie kicks the bucket, but this feature has been rated G and may safely be enjoyed by all but the modern and cynical. Postmoderns might like it, I don't know. I'm not that and I liked it.)

Please check back for uber-moisturizing, goat's milk soap at The Living Room in the near future.

Double dipping allowed here

We've been doing double duty, getting Kenmore Coffee & Tea up and running (and it IS as of today!). That means The Living Room has gotten a little disheveled. Does that happen at your house, too? Gnomes come in while you are busy doing other things, and just trash the place.

But now that our super baristas are settling into their routines in the little kiosk down at the other end of the parking lot, making amazing espresso drinks, tea, and chocolate, etc., it is time for me to spiff things up again in The Living Room.

Laurie did SUCH wonders in here just last week, with her wonderful way of seemingly just walking around the room, creating beauty in her wake. I remember the pleasure of witnessing that as if it were yesterday. Wait a minute, it was yesterday (practically). But you'd hardly know it now. This room really is living; consignments move in and out; people shop, visit, pray, clear a table and share lunch.... So, the entropy war is ongoing.

Do stop by Kenmore Coffee & Tea on your way through Kenmore: 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Of course, you can bring your KCT latte or tea into The Living Room! And I'm still making Keurig coffee and tea here, as well.

What's the use of a blog without pictures? (to paraphrase Alice just before she found herself in Wonderland) So here are some shots I snapped of our sorta-new displays of "smalls", as Wayne Stephens at Armadillo Consignment calls this sort of thing:

small wares 4 small wares 3 small wares 2 small wares

Enjoy :^)

To help with your weighty New Year decisions...

It's a quiet, sunny day. A bit on the cold side. A good day for New Year's Day walks, visits, and ponderings.

If you are inclined to assess and consider and weigh things out at the turn of the year, might this newly consigned scale be of use?

vintage Detecto hanging scale

It's a vintage Detecto hanging scale. 20 lb capacity on a 10 lb dial. The round scale is 8.5" diameter; the roomy hanging scoop is roughly 16" long x 12" wide x 6" tall at the deep end. All metal with a cheery yellow finish.

vintage Detecto hanging scale

I believe it came from a horse-raising family; maybe they used it to weigh out feed? If you are raising teenage boys, it could be put to similar use.
