A collection of beds, and sale continues through Saturday, April 2.... UPDATE APRIL 3: THIS SALE IS OVER!

Pre-Script: We're continuing our 10%-off-everything-and-then-some-sale through the end of the week, April 2, not just the end of March. Doesn't make sense not to fill out the week. So, come by and see what's here! I am enjoying giving out cups of Davidson's organic tea to our shoppers, and am eating way too many of the Danish butter cookies myself.

I wish I could show you a flower bed out front, but not yet. Although Pamela is in the middle of doing a folk art painting of flowers and birds on a chunky coffee table out on the sidewalk, I can only show you this "before" photo:

It already looks much better than this, and we're eager to see what Pamela has in her creative mind's eye.

In lieu of flower beds, let me show you the beds on sale at 10%-25% off this week:

First, 2 dark queens...

Broyhill queen sleigh bed

Elegant hardwood 4-poster canopy bed, here shown set up as day bed. Bed is $225 before 15% discount this week. Includes wooden 4-poster frame, metal canopy, metal rails, box springs and mattress (secondhand in very good condition). This little window retreat is one of my favorite places to sit in the shop these days.UPDATE: SOLD.

Playful, faux marble dining table and china cabinet

playful, faux marble, dining set

Some people are not afraid to bring in consignments during a sale! In the rain! From such people we might expect the unexpected and we would not expect in vain.

A 46" x 78" dining table on 2 rotund palm tree pillars, constructed of wood and fancifully painted. And equipped with a removeable, crunched corner:

A 61" wide x 21" deep, wall-hung china cabinet in two pieces. You have to imagine the piece with the doors sitting atop to piece with the drawers, since I can't install it in our shop:

Four-poster, canopy, twin bed becomes a retreat (and camera has been found!)

Red Duvet with Persian style

Margo set up the hardwood, 4-poster, canopy twin bed with a delightful, full/queen, "Turkey Red"* duvet as bedcover (which has since sold), and a gorgeous, hand-crochet bedspread as canopy. Add a half-dozen decorator pillows and a strand of Christmas beads, et voila.

We're so thankful that our Canon Powershot has been found (it was at home, where I never am--small business owners understand), so Margo took these photos on her cell, sent them to her son, who emailed them to her so I could download them on my computer, edit them, upload them to my flickr account, and finally copy the link to this blog :^). Not bad for such well-traveled, cell phone photos, eh?

Twin canopy bed
Doesn't this invite you to curl up with a book and a cup of tea?

Here's a better look at the 4-poster and the canopy frame, unadorned:

*Friends in the shop hadn't heard of "Turkey Red" before and thought it was in reference to the color of turkey wattles. But, no, the name refers to a beautiful, colorfast hue produced in the 1700's (and perhaps earlier?) by a laborious dying technique originating in the Middle East and later revised (presumably without the sheep dung part of the process) for production in France and Scotland. Yet another interesting historical bit to divert me from my to-do list!

Lovely Chainstitch Rug ... and help me find my camera!

My camera has gone missing (this is not a unique event, but it's been longer than usual), so let me rummage through our flickr gallery to find something pretty for show and tell...

OK, here's a beauty worth sharing:

Antique chainstitch rug
4x6 antique chainstitch rug. Wool on canvas lining. $195
Meanwhile, please pray with me that I find our little workhorse Canon Powershot camera! I used it just last Sunday at my mother's 85th birthday party (thanks, Annie, for hostessing such a happy day, and thanks, Mom, for being such a wonderful mom!), and think I had it out the following Monday at The Living Room, but must have gotten distracted from my purpose (is that prophetic?) and set it down. If you are browsing our shop and find it, I will be so happy!

Grand amber lamp by EF and EF Industries

This lamp has been in our consignment shop for a while, but I just found that we can put a bulb in the base, as well as the top. It was made by EF and EF Industries. 35" tall to top of harp, 14" diameter. Needs a new shade, but what a glorious, over-the-top base to work with! 4-way switch creates many lighting moods: top bulb only, bottom bulb only, both bulbs on, then both bulbs off.

A metal diffuser inside the huge amber base creates lovely shadows when the lower bulb is on, creating a still candle effect:

The shade I set on it doesn't do it any favors, though. Come rescue this grand beauty:

The little mystery horse UPDATE: an Andalusian!

Carved horse, side view

30" long and 24" tall. Lively. Not a toy. Wooden. Carved. Painted. Decorated with mirror tiles forming saddle and ornament. Not too old, as the plastic appears to be a resin-based material glued on and then decorated with mirror tiles. Perhaps 50 years old?

What can you tell me about this little mystery horse? UPDATE: Juan and Lisa of Guemos Tacos were shopping in The Living Room today, and were able to identify our little wooden beauty as a Spanish horse of Andalusia. I was ignorant of this breed, and glad to learn of them.

Here is a quote about Andalusians from a webpage tracing the lineage of the beautiful, dancing Lippizan stallions:

Elegant and showy, with noble head and beautifully curved neck, the Andalusian became the show horse of its time. With its loose gait, pliant strong limbs and dancing movements, the Andalusian possessed a fiery temperament coupled with a docile attitude and it was obedient and highly trainable.

I do believe this little mare is dancing...

On-site painters and tea drinkers...fun :^)

I think we had more tea drinkers here today than ever before. That was fun :^)
And it was extra fun to have Pamela sketching and painting at the far table, having scoured the room for items to make an interesting still life. Hope to show you the finished work someday. Meanwhile, here's my favorite of the paintings she's brought in so far:

Pamellas roses

Thinking of joining us for some tea and treasure hunting? While you are looking for your car keys or bus pass (although it might be hard to take home the treasures you find via bus), take a sec and enjoy a preview of some of our newer consignments at The Living Room:
