From Sheila's Tea Ministry: new consignments you will enjoy

Our friend Sheila has taken us up on the offer of consigning for charity. Here are some items from her first batch. Nice, huh? Her consignments support a tea-party ministry she does with a friend, offering respite and a spot of beauty to women needing encouragement in life.

If you want a boost, ask Sheila to tell you some of her "God-stories" about how the Lord Jesus arranges personal blessings above and beyond what she and Jeanette lovingly plan for their guests.

Before Shabby Chic, there was Antiquing

Antiqued antique, small, serpentine dresser. $195.

I'm not referring to "antiquing" as in shopping for antiques, but rather a refinishing method that did homage to the look of age.

This little 2-drawer dresser is an "antiqued antique"!
It's in very good condition. Dovetail drawer construction. Top drawer is serpentine.

Original brass drawer pulls and wheels.

Here's a closer look at the Persian-style area rug the dresser is sitting on (UPDATE: RUG SOLD):
Like new area rug, 4'4" x 6'5". Persian-style, durable manmade fibers. $48 SOLD

Vintage Korean School Clock

The 12" dial sits in 17" frame. Cabinet height is ~35" overall.

This clock was hand-carried home by a GI in the 1970s. He'd purchased it when Korea modernized all the clocks in their schools.

A beautiful piece of history. If you need it to tell time, this would take a fair bit of fixing.

The GWTW Lamp Goes Chimeric

Here's a happy update to a recent post. Cynthia brought in an interesting piece of lamp that fits perfectly on the vintage parlor lamp base.

Here we've set a small cup with a tealight on the existing socket, but you could use a standard-base decor light bulb.
What do you think?

4 game bird portraits from the 1940s

These four shadowbox diorama game bird portraits were painted by Joseph Q. Whipple in the 1940s for Abercrombie and Fitch Co., NY, back when they were a sporting goods store.

Even the nameplate on the back is intriguing.

That original price sticker showing $6.50 for one of these framed collectibles in ~1940 corresponds to about $120 today. Starting bid for the entire set of 4 on ebay this week is much less!

Lamplight for cozy evenings

Antique Cast iron cat door stop ($58) contemplates vintage cast glass lion in GWTW lamp base ($38)

I learned yet another phrase to describe a portion of this world's temporal treasures: GWTW, as in anything related to the book and movie "Gone With the Wind", as in this case, Victorian-style, double-globe, glass lamps. So much to learn, so little time :^)

Well-bred cards for dog lovers

Liz Marshall arrived with a charming assortment of greeting cards for dog lovers. I know better than to try to photograph cards in plastic sleeves, but couldn't resist sharing a little glimpse of these personality-packed cuties (not sure what that last breed is):
