Borghese Cast Plaster Art Panels ... so sweet!

4 Borghese cast plaster panels, ~8.5x7, available at auction on eBay for the next 10 days
Once again, the fascinating items brought in by our consignors come with history lessons. These 4 charming panels were made in the USA, likely in around 1930-1940, by a company named Borghese. Rather than re-phrase it all, let me refer you to a very readable and thorough article by another eBay seller, Uncle Griff, at this link.

After reading his brief history of the company and their wares, I'm intrigued to find that these ornate, gilded panels aren't more prevalent on the internet market. Could it be these are Rare? Or folks just don't want to part with them.

I enjoyed the excuse to research hair styles and fashions in order to pin a decade on each of the portraits. You can read a synopsis of what I found in each panel's ebay listing. Here's that link.

Enjoy!

Failing in my effort not to pun re "VEX-ing" problem with metal construction set

Kit of Mystery:
Who is the manufacturer of these hobby metal construction parts?

We have received a rich horde of Vex Robotics parts on consignment. They should soon be appearing in our eBay store, once a small question is resolved:

Included in the trove are compatible structural parts from another manufacturer which I haven't been able to identify. Can you help?

Based on the colors of the paint, the heftiness of the metal, and the unique "shouldered" radii (I so wanted to say "radiuses" but spellcheck is scolding me), these parts appear to NOT be Vex, Meccano (so close! but what about those shoulders?), Erector, Marklin Metall, Metallus, Eitech, Temsi, Stokys, or any other with images and info on the English internet. But I could be wrong about that.

There's a world of robotics tinkerers out there, and I'm hoping this query will reach someone who can tell me the manufacturer of these parts.

A true Papa Bear's chair...a large and soothing rocker

Large wooden rocking chair, a true "Papa Bear Chair", this one has a great rock to it.
  .

  .

We've found that rocking chairs each have their own feel; you need to find a good match for you, so come try this for a test rock and see if it's "just right" for you! If you can bring a little one to hold, so much the better :^)

This one has a few scratches, but it's in good shape and has great style! I love the gold banding, the Old World stenciling, and the little spheres set in the back and as the finials.

Antique sewing basket from early 1900s

This antique, woven sewing basket looks like one my grandmother used. I see them on ebay listed as "Chinese sewing baskets", so that's what I'm calling it. This is 12" diameter, with lots of space for sewing accessories and skeins of crewel yarns or embroidery silks.

Here's the link to our ebay listing for this basket:

To chic or not to chic?

Charming, wooden dining table and 4 chairs.
Queen Anne styling with a sweetly curved apron, cabriole legs, and scrolled feet.

The world is divided into 2 camps: those who divide the world into 2 camps and those who abhor such over-simplifications!

Still, there are definitely 2 distinct attitudes about painting furniture, and folks do seem to line up in one camp or the other: those who paint wooden furniture, and those who see that as sacrilege

With furniture like this, I think it's ok to go either way for these 3 reasons: the light fruitwood does not have a particularly memorable grain, the current finish is quite worn, and the structure is decent. An excellent candidate for a shabby chic transformation, which could, however, be scrubbed up just a bit and enjoyed as it is.

The chairs were made by Lenoir Chairs, which was a mid-quality furniture mfg.
started in 1926 by one of the Broyhill brothers and later merged into the Broyhill brand.
These may be from the 1960s, judging from the flecked finish. They were re-upholstered about 6 months ago.

The table is 43.5" diameter plus two 18" leaves. The table, which has no manufacturer's tag, and the chairs have subtle differences in style, and may have been purchased separately,
although the pieces do go well together.

We have a new ebay store!

  .. ..  .. ...
A vintage dart cabinet, an African family in sculpture, an antique sideboard, an old Bye-Lo Baby doll...
what do all these have in common? They are all items on our new ebay store, which we've just set up in hopes of sharing our wonderful consignment treasures with a wider audience. It's still in early stages, but it seems to have most of the right working parts :^)
