ABOUT US

Here we are in the summer of 2009, taking a break in a friend's garden.
That summer was full of dreaming, planning, and lots of hard work, as we prepared to open
The Living Room!

The Living Room is a neighborhood shop, supported by donations and shoppers from our community of friends and neighbors, local and online. Our goal is to go with Christ into the marketplace, learn what He wants us to learn, do the work He's planned for us to do, and be part of changing lives--ours and others around us.

We began with a consignment model, but in late 2017, changed to donations only, as a way to help support Care Net Pregnancy & Family Services, our neighbor in Kenmore.

Our selection, from antique to contemporary, of gently used furniture, home decor, gifts and collectibles is always changing. In addition, we offer fine, organic tea to sample in the shop and to purchase for home. We also carry new gift items, such as hand-crafted soaps and locally made craft items and artworks.

Things:

Some things are necessary and some things are useful and some things are just nice to have around, but all things are mostly an excuse to interact with people and build relationships. Sometimes we forget this, and if you think we have, please remind us.

Service:

~We base this business on donations because we wanted to help people: those who need to downsize, those who need to find affordable home furnishings, and those who turn to Care Net for help.
~ We offer art and crafts and new gift items because there's power in beauty, and it's good to showcase human creativity, in honor of our Creator.
~ We included tea in our business plan because tea is just so nice! Sometimes, our showroom can be stuffed with so much eye candy, it helps to sit down with a cup of tea and let the room come to you.

Money:

We need to be practical and pay the rent and honor our utility providers, etc., so that's where the buying and selling comes in. God puts limits on us to teach us all sorts of stuff...about reality, about humility, about what's really important....

People:
We're grateful to all the people who make our shop possible, blessing us in so many ways. We're grateful to God who makes it all possible and worthwhile through Jesus Christ.

Fun:
Not all days are fun, but there's joy in every day. Sometimes, joy is just by choice. Other times, it swoops you up and carries you along. This store has been a blast, even though it's been a lot of hard work and lots of lessons. Again, it's the people that make it worthwhile.

Prayer:

Our foundation. The reason we're here. If we can pray with you, or for you, please let us know.
