So Mod! Big, low shag rug from the 1970s

 (Update: SOLD)
The Living Room Consignment & Tea is pleased to offer...
A big, beautiful, ivory-white and gold, low shag,
designer rug from 1971, in great vintage condition.
The consignor remembers when her mother bought this
in the early 1970s as a "raw wool" rug.
Six bands of elongated hexagons, outlined in gold,
stretch across the rug.
The texture of the natural wool is almost like that of a sheepskin,
with a low, shaggy pile (~1/2" - 3/4").
It measures 9'9" x 14' plus a row of fat 6" braids at each end.

This rug is big! Works well with many design themes.
Obviously, great with retro, mid century modern,
but not such a wild design that it doesn't play nicely
with other themes, as well.
There's very little wear, less then one might expect
for a rug that's now 41 years old.

There's one area where the gold dye may have bled very slightly
into the surrounding natural color.
The photo below on the left shows the extent of that,
but can you make it out in the larger view on the right?
It would be at the second band of hexagons from the bottom right:
.

The length of the pile varies from about 1/2" to 3/4".
There's no backing, just the weave,
so it's recommended to use this rug with a pad or liner.

Thank you for shopping at The Living Room Consignment & Tea! Have a wonderful day :^)

Quality-built Martin Furniture computer desk needs new home!

This solidly-built desk was $2,000 at Costco Home.
No pressed wood here: the dark wood surface completely wraps the 3/4" non-warping plywood frame, including the back.

Heavy, dark brass drawer pulls. Smooth metal drawer slides.

Designed to be set up as L-shaped desk, but unlike many L-desks, can also be set up as 2 independent work stations.

Main desk is 68.25" wide x 32" deep x 29" tall. Has 3-drawer stack with a file drawer, plus 26" wide pencil drawer.

The right-hand return (or 2nd work station) is 48" x 20.75"; has a 35.5" keyboard tray with a built-in mouse pad; houses the computer garage, 2 cubby drawers.

Built-in surge protector/power strip, labeled "Martin Furniture", has 5 plug-ins plus phone and fax input.

There are a few scratches, but this is a very handsome desk. The consignor hates to part with it, but is moving out of the area.

New consignments have arrived...some momentarily!

Eileen and Yvonne had a lot of fun this morning rearranging everything to make room for another big, new consignment. When the truck arrived in the mid-afternoon, the new pieces had barely come through the door when alert shoppers snatched up about half of them. We love it when that happens!

Here are some of the interesting and beautiful items that remain for your consideration...
(Please see our craigslist ad for current pricing and availability.)
  .
~ This beautiful, mahogany-toned, wooden china cabinet is relatively new, in excellent condition.
Graceful lines, subtle carving. 5'7" wide x 19" deep x 7' tall.
~ The vintage wool blanket is probably from the 1930s.
It's 62" x 78", thick and warm. The pink roses are in reverse pattern on each side.

.
~ We have a 1999 art calendar from Teatro Italiano featuring 12 prints of Commedia Dell Arte' characters in period costumes, suitable for framing.

. .
~ These 6 Chinese plates have beautiful floral patterns in an aqua palette.
The plates come in pairs, 8", 9" and 10". Discount available for multiples.
They make a stunning display on the vintage cherry-wood china hutch that came in last week.

This Lewisburg hutch can be see in this craigslist ad: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/hsd/3022604082.html

Thanks for looking! We hope you'll visit again soon.
Come for tea and shop for a treasure.

OPEN MONDAYS, TOO, in a world of armoires and hutches...

Just in time to welcome our new, extended days, we have taken several new armoires and china cabinets on consignment. Come see them before they get overrun with the little housewares that keep trying to fill the shop!

Here's a very handsome specimen to give you a preview:

2 wood armoire 44x22x78 (5)
Beautiful, traditional styling in modern, wooden armoire. ~44" x 22" x 78" tall, plus crown molding.

Doors are paneled in darker wood. The satin finish accentuates the grain. Rests on square pillow feet.

Interior shelves can be removed if closet rod (included) is installed for hanging clothes. 2 big drawers, as well. If cabinet is used for media, the cutouts for cords are lined with metal, a sign of the thoughtfulness in design and construction.

The consignor hates to part with this high-quality piece, purchased for over $1200 a few years ago, but it doesn't fit in their new home.

Check our craigslist ad for current pricing and availability.

Enjoy our NEW HOURS: OPEN Monday through Saturday 10am-6pm, and by appointment. Closed Sunday.

We have two girls' writing desks for economical young ladies.
Both have 4 drawers and are ~43" wide x ~17" deep x ~30" tall:

French Provincial style labeled "Bonnet by Sears", wood and pressed wood
(oops, top 2 left-hand drawers are reversed in the photo)

and
Shabby Chic, wooden, white writing desk
I've updated this post after sitting at one of the desks and realizing that, although the height is standard, the leg room under the drawer is too short for an adult!
